S.P.A. Competitive Dance Teams will take your training to the next level. S.P.A. provides amazing training in all classes with a focus on detail and technique; the competition dance schedule multiplies this training and sends our dancers on a fast track to success. We believe in a well rounded atmosphere that will provide endless opportunities for all dancers while allowing them time to maintain their daily schedules outside of the studio.
Our competitive dancers are held to an elite regimen while having additional opportunities within S.P.A. as well as our community. We promote a healthy lifestyle, balance, confidence, passion, hard work and open communication.
Above and beyond most dance organizations, SPA teaches our students how to further their dance experience by assisting them in auditions for collegiate dance programs, stage productions and in becoming instructors themselves. Not only is SPA an educational institution, but it also teaches students to craft a new competitive edge as well. This is a competitive program unlike any else! While we are a competition program, our goal is to see development within skills and performance value while building social skills, instilling responsibility and fostering life lessons.
With over twenty-five years of competitive experience, SPA has won over 100 National Titles in Jazz, Pom and Hip Hop divisions all throughout California and Nevada, more than 25+ Best Choreography honors, 10+ Best Costuming awards, countless soloist accolades, and proudly hold Silver & Bronze Medals representing the United States of America at the USASF Dance Worlds in Orlando FL. We are more than proud to say that last year’s Competitive Team came home with the Bronze medal from the 2022 Worlds Dance Competition!!
Many of our students have ventured on to join extremely successful dance programs, such as: The Sacramento Kings Royal Court Dance Team, DePaul University Dance Team (Chicago, IL.), University of California Berkeley Dance Team (Berkeley, CA.), University of Baylor (Lubbock, TX.), UNLV Rebel Girls & Co. (Las Vegas, NV.) Midland University (Fremont, NB.), Sacramento State University (Sacramento, CA.), California State University Long Beach Dance Team (Long Beach, Ca.), Orange Coast College Dance Team (Costa Mesa, Ca.), Walt Disney Productions (Los Angeles, Ca. & Orlando, Fl.), auditioning for So You Think You Can Dance and/or going on to be the founders of their own dance companies, i.e. Ross Dance Company (San Francisco, Ca.), and the top 5 finalist of Bravo’s premier television show, Step It Up and Dance (Hollywood, Ca.), touring dancer for the incredible Jennifer Lopez and Shaina Twain, JAGGED a dance team contestant on America’s Best Dance Crew (Los Angeles, Ca.) and countless stage productions such as: White Christmas, Anything Goes, West Side Story, Guys & Dolls, Newsies and many more Broadway hits!!
Recent Studio & Competitive News...
This past year, one of our Senior High School students was offered a full Academic / Athletic Scholarship to The University of Midland in Fremont, Nebraska in the amount of $25,000 per year; a guaranteed $100,000 for a 4 year education and commitment to the Dance Team / Performing Arts Program. As Coaches and mentors, this is such an outstanding testament to the standards in which SPA models and continues to guide our students towards the pursuit of excellence in all that they do.
SPA has always been blessed with a large following of male dancers and it has absolutely allowed us to explore so many unique facets of dance with such a heavy coed environment! This year, at the UDA College National Championships, where dancers representing colleges all across the United States gather to compete at the highest level, our STRUT vibe was present!! One of our male dancers joined the UNLV Rebel Girls & Company Dance Team for the 2023 season and were just awarded Collegiate National Champions in both the Division D1A Hip Hop and Game Day divisions. We could not be more proud of his hard work and dedication to his craft!
The opportunities are endless... LIVE THE STRUT LIFE!
• DEFINING POM PERFORMANCE:
This particular division of dance is focused on synchronization and visual effects, clean and precise dance movements, strong Pom technique, unique costuming as well as technical dance elements; i.e. pirouette turns, leaps, kicks, etc. An extremely multi-talented dancer would be attracted to this category of performance for it calls for a dancer that is technically capable, incredibly strong with their movements and can execute all genres of dance.
• DEFINING HIP-HOP:
This division of dance emphasizes street style movements such as body isolations, control, rhythm, uniformity, break dancing and musical interpretation. This style of dance allows for expressive movements while focusing on body control and proper placement. Hip Hop calls for innovative choreography, athletic movements, ground work, tricks, and a great deal of energy and distinctive steps that will set them apart from other competitors.
• DEFINING JAZZ:
A Jazz routine can encompass any range of jazz movement including traditional jazz, commercial jazz, musical theatre, jazz funk or stylized hard-hitting jazz. Movement is crisp and/or aggressive in approach and can include movements of softness while complementing musicality. Emphasis is based on style, body alignment, extension, control, uniformity, technical elements and communication.
